IPL Guide: Read the Progress of an Innings
The IPL section gives you a second kind of progress check: reading the overs and innings state of a cricket match. It explains the notation so you can tell how far an innings has progressed.
This section explains IPL and cricket information. Use the competition website for current fixtures and results, and consult the relevant service for its viewing rights and availability.

Overs are a count of deliveries
One over normally contains six valid balls. A display of 8.3 means eight completed overs and three valid balls of the next over: 51 valid balls, not 8.3 decimal overs.
Identify which side is batting
Read the batting side and innings number with the score. A first-innings total sets the context for the chase, while a second-innings score must be read against the target and remaining deliveries.
Follow a match in context
- Confirm the teams, match date and competition before interpreting a score.
- Read the innings label, runs, wickets and overs together. Check whether the display says live, innings break or result.
- For a chase, read the target and any revised conditions before calculating what remains.
Sports labels and Android help
A Cricket category identifies a sport; a scorecard describes a match. Neither tells you which Android file is installed. Keep match reading separate from app installation, account recovery and update checks.
Work through the cricket example
In a cricket score, 8.3 overs means eight completed overs and three valid balls of the next over. The digit after the point is a ball count, so it should not be read as a decimal fraction.
